In history, we are looking at particular events and changes that have affected the lives of children and old people. Our focus for this first lesson was on how we remember things from our childhoods. After brainstorming how we think we remember and why it might be important to remember, we invited Mr. Lane to talk about his childhood memories and how he remembers them.
Another theme in our Art lessons was looking at human motion. We studied the work of artists to see how they created sculptures on this theme. Then we took a photo of us in a pose and used the modelling clay to sculpt our pieces. Our Generation Game topic gave us a busy couple of weeks in Art. First of all, we looked at how artists have depicted childhood and then created our own scenes from around school to show childhood. Then we looked at how artists use line and shade to create drawings of elderly people. We then used a photo of ourselves to draw our portraits, but used shading to create a drawing of what we think we might look like when we are older. Take a look at our work: Last week saw us taking part in different STEM activities. (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.) We had the opportunity to build the tallest tower, design and build a land yacht, find a way of protecting an egg so it didn't break when we threw it off the balcony in the Lily Theatre and testing theories surrounding Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man. Here are just a few photos from our busy and exciting week: This was saw us starting our new topic called 'The Generation Game'. It is all about looking at childhood, growing up and becoming old. We began our unit with a 'guess who' quiz. Each child brought in a photo of themselves as a baby and we had to try and guess who was who. Many of the teachers took part too, sharing photos of themselves as babies. These were much harder to work out! We also listened to some of our favourite music, before listening to music that the teachers listened to when they were our age. Some of the songs they chose were good and we danced to them, but others were too boring! Some of our parents spent the afternoon with us and joined in with our guessing game. It was a fun afternoon and a great way to start our new unit. |
